I graduated from Frostburg State College where I earned a BS degree majoring in Psychology and History. I earned a MEd from Salisbury University in Secondary Education and attended Towson University. I spent 43 years teaching special education in Worcester County Maryland. I served as chairman of the Special Education Dept., was Athletic Director, Coached Softball and Football.

I am forever grateful for the time I spent working with the kids I had the opportunity to work with. This feeling comes back a hundred fold every time I bump into one of my kids and they thank me for taking the time for them and showing them I cared.

I have been umpiring girls fast pitch softball for 32 years, a hobby and passion. I am currently the Umpire in Chief for Delaware, and umpire high school games in both Maryland and Delaware. I also umpire major college Div I softball.

My wife Dee and I are both retired. She was an elementary music teacher for 37 years. We enjoy every day of retirement. It's like being a teenager again and having summers free.

I would like to share a story that is very special to me and hopefully will be to you too. When my mother was 89 I gave her a silly birthday card (I always gave her comical cards). In it I listed 89 reasons why I loved her. (I thought it would be hard to find 89 reasons, but I could have listed hundreds. Things like...the cowboy curtains in my room, the special potato salad she made with pickles, for sitting up with me in the 3rd grade until the wee hours helping me on my Greek report, etc. As we read the list aloud we laughed and cried over every one. Many were quite different from the way I remembered them. She framed that card and it hung on her bedroom way until she passed at 92. She often said it was the best gift she had ever received, and I know it was the best gift I ever gave. So simple, so special. For those fortunate enough to still have your parents, give them a special card (and have your siblings do one too, their memories will be quite different) It is a true blessing for all.

School Story

In the spring of 1966 a number of us in Mr. Preston's Music class sneaked out the side door and went to the teacher's parking lot next to Old Main. We located Mr. Killen's small car picked it up and turned it sideways so that there were only inches between it and the cars on either side of it. All of a sudden Mr. Killen yelled "Hey!"at us from the top stairwell window in Old Main.He disappeared and we scrambled back into class. Mr. Killen soon appeared in the classroom and went right to Mr. Preston telling him what he witnessed. Mr. Preston swore to Mr. Killen that he had been directly in front of the class and that we had never been out of the classroom. It must have been some other students. Killen left fuming. Mr. Preston turned around and gave us the biggest grin I had ever seen and nothing was ever said about it again.

Happy Birthday Pete. It has been a long time since we spoke. I hope you have had a good career. I haven't seen you since Frostburg. I retired from teaching special education 4 years ago. I tried administration but it was too negative for me. I enjoyed working with the kids, but 43 years was enough. Drop me a line sometime so we can talk. Steve

Happy Birthday Kathy. Its been 50+ years since we have spoken.
life goes far too quickly. This is a picture of me and my wife, Dee, that was taken at our 50th class reunion last June. I retired 3 years ago after teaching special education for 43 years. It was an enjoyable run but I prefer retirement.

I believe that poet Maya Angelou said it best when she said "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." Our time at B-CC was gone in a flash as have the last 50 years, but our memories are with us forever.
